Maturity

There's a phrase or expression used to denote the peak or supposed "best time" in an individual's life.  Being "in their prime" for an athlete may not be the same as "in the prime of their life" for an educator, construction worker, or artist.

It's maturity - knowledge and experience - that enables momentum and leads to something which may be called a "peak".

There shouldn't be just one.  A series of peaks is what knowledge building on knowledge or experience reaches.  No checking out after one or pulling back from a fear of failure.

When you hear "that voice" or feel your determination or strength of will weakening... recognize it.  Recognize it for what it is - artificial (go ahead and debate me on that).

Those moments pass quickly when you patiently hold firm.  But don't wait for it to completely pass.  Handle it backward in every respect. Immediately restore determination and confidence.  Then right back into the fray.

A mature mind has perspective.  A mature mind has options for decisions and recognizes them.  A mature mind doesn't require a minimum age and no age should never be forced or required to give up independence or freedom.

Not every individual - mature or otherwise - will have a family who ensures those things for them.  They need and deserve them regardless.  We can make a short list minus details (those aren't difficult to fill in):

  • Independence or freedom
  • Home or security
  • Nutrition or medicine
  • Communication or travel
The purpose of treason is to enable change.  Continual opportunity for change on an individual's own terms.  All mind's will inevitably deteriorate or decline without it.

Both knowledge and experience are priceless.  When they're shared without asking for anything in return we owe a debt that can never be repaid.
