Knowledge about static fields (like electric ones) has been disappearing from common awareness for awhile.
That's an extremely, extremely - an extremely I can't emphasize enough - bad loss of knowledge.
There are 2 reasons for this:
- Our aging process will become more and more determined by them as the technologies we've chosen dominate.
- We can't understand our universe and continue to advance civilization without it.
More reasons exist and they're important. But those 2 tend to interest our full minds.
There's nothing particularly poor about the transition to digital technologies. That's been a stepping stone while progress was needed.
Digital may not be the best or only solution once we've reached out beyond one planet. That may be a dissenting opinion and will go no where - let's assume it's not backwards.
Maybe someone(s) at a space agency represented by 4 letters would provide an assist on that?
